News has been arriving about an Android build named Linaro which takes Android 4.0.4 and turns it super-fast, boosting performance by as much as 100% over stock, reports AndroidPolice. This news is very impressive as Android 4.0.x is already blazingly quick thanks to hardware acceleration support.
Linaro makes gives Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich phones a performance boost
One of the people working on Linaro, Bernhard Rosenkranzer, showed off the operating system recently on TI Pandaboard in a video. Pandaboard has an OMAP 4430 processor which is used in the DROID RAZR. In the video it shows the Linaro build finishing ahead of the stock Android build which is not only good news but also the parts of Linaro which are said to make the OS efficient and fast are going to be coming soon to CM9.
At the moment the Linaro code is awaiting approval from GM9 gerrit and providing of course that they are approved; the tweaks will then be added to the code of CM9. This should give devices that are supported a drastic performance increase. There is even more good news as owners of the Galaxy Nexus are able to try out the unofficial CM9 build with the inclusion of the bits from Linaro. Reports are that the build is a lot faster and very fluid.
At the moment there is no indication of when the build with the added code will be available, however it seems that it will be worth the wait and the whole of the CM9 world will be a great deal faster when it does arrive.
