2012 has shown the most anticipated Android thus far with the release of the Samsung Galaxy S3. However the HTC One X has also proven very popular and offers some very similar specs to the S3, for a lower price. With the Samsung Galaxy S3 receiving excellent reviews all over the globe from tech experts, it has been compared with all other similar phones currently on the market and has been found favorable, with some reviewers even believing it to be successor to the iPhones which have been dominating the market.
HTC One X vs Samsung Galaxy S3
With the HTC One X being the first quad core Android smartphone offered by HTC, it felt right to compare the two. Firstly we compare operating system: both have the Ice Cream Sandwich OS (Android 4.0) so are equal here. However with processors and memory, both are quad core, but the One X just tips the balance with 1.5 GHz and 1GB RAM to the S3 with 1.4 GHz and 1GB RAM (if you believe benchmarks though then the S3 wins despite being underclocked below the One X).
The Samsung Galaxy S3 has 3 varieties of memory. It offers 16, 32 and 64 GB of internal storage, and can be expanded upon also up to 32 GB extra with a MicroSD card. The HTC One X just has 32 GB of internal storage with no option to expand. Despite this, we are unlikely to see the 64 GB Samsung Galaxy S3 in this country, and the 32 GB isn’t out just yet but is expected pretty soon.
With regards to display, the S3 has a Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen, with 16M colours, 720×1280 pixels and is 4.8 inches with 306 ppi pixel density, along with multitouch, Corning Gorilla Glass 2 and TouchWiz UI v4. The One X is similar with a 4.7 screen, a Super IPS LCD2 capacitive touchscreen and also has Corning Gorilla Glass. In bright outdoor conditions, we found the HTC One X display more clearer.
The cameras are also similar. The HTC One X has an 8 MP camera on the rear with an LED flash, autofocus, and 1080p video recording. It also has a secondary camera which has 1.3 MP and can record 720p videos. The S3 also has 8 MP, with 3264 x 2448 pixels, LED flash, autofocus, HD video and image recording, geo-tagging, face and smile detection, touch focus and image stabilization features, along with a 1.9 MP front camera which can be used for video calling.
Battery life on the S3 is slightly longer and is a Li-lon 2050mAh battery, with the One X having a 1800mAh battery and an assurance of in excess of 8 hours talk time.
HTC One X: Cheaper & more readily available right now than Galaxy S3
As you can see, differences are minimal and the One X seems to have two things in its favor – a cost effective alternative if price is a factor for you as well as more immediate availability if you can’t wait any longer to get your hands on one here in the US.
