Samsung Galaxy S3 vs Galaxy Note: Which Is A Better Buy?

One of the most talked about Android smartphones of 2012 is without a doubt the Samsung Galaxy S3I, thanks to a large display of 4.8 inches, great battery, enhanced software and processor that is powerful. Secondly, the Samsung Galaxy S3 is one of the biggest handsets after the Galaxy Note. The Note has a 5.3 inch screen which beats the 4.8-inch on the Galaxy S3, but how do they compare otherwise?

Samsung Galaxy S3 vs Samsung Galaxy Note

When it comes to design the S3 isn’t exactly inspiring with its premium plastic feel. The screen is Super AMOLED at 720×1280 with 306 ppi and is based on Pentile Matrix and is protected by Gorilla Glass. The Galaxy Note also has a Super AMOLED screen but at 800×1280 pixels with ppi of 285. Despite having lower ppi, the Note comes out on top thanks to its design and display.

In the processor and memory category the S3 is one of the most powerful mobiles thanks to the 1.4GHz Exynos quad core processor and it comes with 2GB RAM. It also comes in three versions, the 16GB, 32GB and 64GB of internal storage and supports external SD card up to 64GB. Owners of the handset can also get 50GB of dropbox storage free (selected US carriers). The Note comes with a 1.4GHz dual core processor and has 1GB of RAM with either 16GB or 32GB of storage and the option to add on another 32GB externally. As the S3I is packed with a more powerful processor and has more storage options, it comes out the winner.

In regards to connectivity both of the phone have the typical options of Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS and NFC. There are also LTE versions of both of the devices. The Samsung Galaxy S3 however also features wireless charging.

The user interface of the Samsung Galaxy S3 comes with Ice Cream Sandwich Android 4.0 complete with TouchWiz 4.0 overlay and includes apps such as Smart Stay, S Voice and S Beam. The Note on the other hand runs on Gingerbread Android 2.3 with an update in the future. The Note has exclusive apps catering for the stylus function. With more intelligent apps, the S3 is the winner here in our opinion.

The Samsung Galaxy S3 has an 8 megapixel camera and a Burst Mode to capture up to 20 shots with no shutter lag. The Note also has an 8 megapixel camera but none of these added powerful features, which puts the S3 ahead.

The S3 has a large 2,100 mAh battery while the Note has a 2,500 mAh battery. As the performance of the battery of the S3 is unknown this is a draw until we can get some real world testing in.

In conclusion the Note is still a cool device thanks to its large display. However it lacks the power of the S3 when it comes down to hardware. The S3 also beats it in the software department but the Note wins in favor of display and stylus advantages. Despite the S3 winning, you can’t go wrong with either one of these smartphones as a purchase today.
