Anyone who owns the Samsung Galaxy S4, or even the S3 or Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is able to unlock their devices without them having to pay out a penny.

For instance, if you bought the handset with Verizon the device will be locked if you bought it on contract. If you unlock the handset you could use it with any carrier anywhere in the world. The device could even be sent to a family member. To unlock the handset just follow the steps below.

Take out your own SIM card and put in one that belongs to another carrier and switch off the handset then switch it back on again.

Now go to the dial pad on the phone and type in *#197328640#. Go to main menu > [1] UMTS > [1] Debug Screen > [8] Phone Control > [6] Network Lock > Options [3]Perso SHA256 OFF > wait a minute before heading into menus and choosing back. You will see ‘Network Lock’ – so you select [4] NW Lock NV Data INITIALLIZ.
The correct sequence will read: Asterisk Pound One Nine Seven Three Two Eight Six Four Zero Pound. Remember that some people call the asterisk the ‘star’, and call the pound ‘hash’.
