Gamers playing Pokemon X & Y have been shocked by an announcement for Nintendo telling them that the Pokebank and PokeTransporter apps are going to be delayed thanks to a large amount of traffic on the Nintendo Network Service. Both apps should have been released in Europe and North America on December 27.
Over in Japan Nintendo launched both apps on December 25 but Nintendo took the PokeBank cloud storage app offline and then took it from the eShop in Japan thanks to it having a massive strain on the companies servers.
Nintendo released a message on their website announcing the delay. Nintendo said “Nintendo and The Pokémon Company International have postponed the launch of Pokémon Bank and Poké Transporter – two software applications that were originally scheduled to launch for Nintendo 3DS on Dec 27 – due to a large volume of traffic to the Nintendo Network service.
“Due to the high traffic, players are having trouble setting up Nintendo Network IDs and downloading content in the Nintendo eShop on both Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. We truly regret the inconvenience, and wish to reassure everyone that providing a solution is our top priority. We apologize for the delay and thank you for your continued patience.”
Nintendo hasn’t given any indication when we can expect to see the app again. Gamers who want to use the service have to pay $5 per year to access it when it is working. Nintendo announced there would be a free 30 day trial period when the PokeBank app was launched.
The overload has created issues with the servers of Nintendo and this has affected the Wii U and 3DS. Both have been linked recently through the Nintendo Network ID System.
This incident indicates the popularity of Pokemon games with the latest release being Pokemon X & Y. The game sold more than 4 million copies in the first two days of its launch over in Japan.
A posting seen on Kotaku suggests that even with checks on the new service players can still transfer illegal Pokemon to the next gen. At the moment the apps remains offline.
Fans of the game are upset as Pokemon X & Y has been out for two months now and there is no sign of Pokebank. The previous Pokemon game arrived with PokeBank options simultaneously and this has left gamers wanting to know when it will arrive for Pokemon X & Y.
