Plans For The 2015 Grand Cherokee Diesel Model Uncertain

It looks like customers in the US waiting for the release of a diesel-powered Cherokee may have to wait for quite a while to see this happen as Jeep have made the decision to put this vehicle to one side for the time being.

Jeep have stated that they first want to make sure that sales of the Grand Cherokee are good. Those sales will give Jeep an idea as to how the US are likely to receive a diesel-powered vehicle. After that they may make a choice as to whether to go ahead with their ideas for the Jeep Cherokee.

The Jeep Cherokee runs on a 2.0 litre Multijet four-cylinder turbo diesel.

Mike Manly, the boss at Jeep made it clear that sales for the Grand Cherokee will have to be doubles before Jeep consider releasing a Cherokee in the US.

When speaking to Automotive news he stated that “Cherokee is slightly different because of its weight and size. When I think about bringing Cherokee diesel here, I would like to see Grand Cherokee diesel get much higher than eight per cent. It would have to be in mid-double digits.” However he then went on to say I never rule anything out with diesel for the Jeep brand.”
