The Nexus 5 was announced by Google a month ago but LG have made some changes by way of design tweaks to the hardware. This could be due to the fact that they have listened to what people have said about the Nexus 5 but it does make one wonder why they didn’t launch the device as good as it could be to begin with.
The XDA Developers forum had one user point out that their handset came with defects. They said that the SIM card tray protruded from the handsets. Google replaced the device and the owner noticed some tweaks in comparison to the device he had returned.
They said that the speaker grille holes were larger, which made the sound louder. The power and volume buttons were stiffer and they no longer made rattling noises when the handset was shaken. The SIM card tray was flush to the device now.
The owner said that not all the changes were good as the device came with a display that was more yellow and they noticed green stuck pixels.
Google have been contacted to find out what changes have been made.
The Nexus 5 is one of the best phones on the market at the moment and it is superb value for money. The only let-down has been the camera and Google are working on a fix for it.
There is also a rumour going around that LG will be behind the Nexus 10 2 and not Samsung. This may lead to a wallet friendly 10 inch tablet with improvements.
In a recent update a spokesperson for LG said “We can confirm that the Nexus 5 has not undergone any hardware design changes since launch.” I asked LG how they explain the differences in the photo, and was told: “Naturally, we can’t really speculate on this specific handset. However, it could be that the user is or was in possession of a pre-commercial unit which may differ slightly from the final hardware.”
