Minecraft: Inability To Change Your Name May Soon Be Fixed

In Minecraft, the player’s user ID is fixed on just about everything they own. There is even that Lord of the Rings rip-off which quotes, “one ID to rule them all, one ID to bind…”

Now, Minecraft players are in for some great news. Soon, they will be able to change the names of characters. It will start with the PC after Mojang revealed that they will introduce a unique user ID feature in the upcoming 1.8 update.

The game developer revealed that the permanent IDs will still be intact despite the coming of a unique user ID. This is to ensure that players who are banned, whitelisted, or oped on a server don’t lose their status.

Today alone, Mojang rolled out the 1.7.6 update which adds in the unique ID feature but the name changing part is still pending and will come in the 1.8 update. On the other hand, the game developer is worried that players choose to change their name every 5 minutes.

It gets more personal after Mojang revealed that the no player will be able to share the same name.

To gain access to the pre-release, players have to open their launcher and press the New Profile button and Enable Experimental Development Snapshots and save. To toggle back to the normal version, refer back to the dropbox at the bottom left corner of the launcher and run the game in a different folder.
