The Google Nexus 5 has been on the market for some time now and it has been in competition with many other handsets on the market, but has it managed to hold its own with them? A recent report comparing sales figures of the devices for 2013 put the Google Nexus 5 at the bottom of the food chain. However that has been contributed to distribution chains which aren’t as widespread for the Nexus range outside of a couple of countries. As such, tech gurus have had to rely on specs to see where the Google Nexus 5 stood against its rivals in 2013. The reviews were promising.
When comparing the Nexus handset with competitors you do need some understanding of what Google managed to do when they launched the Nexus brand name. The Nexus is a platform on which Google show off new features and the device itself is a benchmark for other phone makers to follow. Google launched the Nexus One and it stood out from all others. when the Nexus One arrived it came with NFC and successors to the Nexus have all brought something new. The Nexus 5 came with KitKat 4.4 and this was the first handset to offer the new OS.
There is more to the Nexus that the operating system. The handset has a good camera, great processor and some superb hardware. However it is the price tag that blows all other devices out of the water. So how has it stood up to the likes of the Apple iPhone, Samsung Galaxy Note 3, Samsung Galaxy S4, the LG G2, HTC One and the Moto X?
The Nexus 5 has certainly been a strong contender on the smartphone market but it is a handset that people will love on sight or hate.
