LG is currently very busy rolling out the Android 5.0 Lollipop update to the G3 devices worldwide. Once the G3 is fully updated to the latest OS from Google, LG will then bring the Lollipop over to older devices like the G2.
Then again, G2 users can already apply the Lollipop on their smartphone. This is made possible thanks to XDA’s Rashed97, who had just developed a custom ROM containing the Android 5.0 Lollipop. The ROM is developed strictly for the G2 D800, D801, D802, LS980, and VS980 variants and it is still in its early build.
In other words, the ROM contains some issues that have yet to be addressed. This includes problems with the video recording and the GPS feature. Meanwhile, the LS/VS980 is suffering from an additional problem involving the cellular network. The upside to this is that Rashed97 promises to update the custom ROM and free it from all its issues.
So, if you’re a G2 user and wish to get a taste of the Lollipop, all you have to do is download the custom ROM at XDA, together with the Google Apps Package and follow the instruction below.
Pre-requisite
1. Make sure a backup is created and the device is already rooted with CWM. We recommend doing so with NANDROID.
2. A minimum of 50% battery life to ensure no disruption when installation is taking place.
3. CM12 ROM ZIP downloaded for the G2.
4. Google Apps Package downloaded.
Flashing Instruction
1. Transfer both the Custom ROM and Google Apps Package to your G2.
2. Boot device into recovery mode and wipe cache, data and system partition.
3. Flash the CM12 ROM.
4. Then, Flash the Google Apps Package.
5. The G2 should reboot and it will run on the Lollipop OS.
