iPhone 5S Camera Gets A Resolution Pump With 2K App

Owners of the Apple iPhone 5 who would like to take 2 video can now do so. However if you want to be able to take HD video with your iPhone, it will cost you $7.

Apple offered an upgrade for the iPhone 5S from 1080p to 2k but they wanted a couple of bucks. However a new iPhone app by the way of UltraKam will do the same thing.

However if you are looking for an app that would convert the camera of the iPhone to a higher resolution then this isn’t it. The app just allows the software to use more of the hardware capabilities of the devices camera. Apple said that the iPhone 5S only has a 1080p HD camera, but it seems that this isn’t the case. The hardware of the camera is able to capture HD video up to a resolution of 3264 x 2448. However the processor isn’t able to process many pixels in a time that is sensible.

The camera app that is built in to the iPhone 5S captures HD video at 120 fps. The Ultrakam app limits the frame rate to 30fps. This means that the camera of the iPhone 5S will have a codec that is more efficient to capture video in 2k or a resolution of 2240 x 1672. The app means that owners can shoot 24fps and get a film like look.

You do have to take into account that 2k video eats up 3GB of storage per minute, so if you have a 64GB iPhone you can store just 20 minutes of footage if you have nothing else stored on the handset. When used on the iPhone 5 the app limits it to 20fps.

If you want to shoot short videos in high quality the UItracam Professional camera app could be better. This costs $6.99 from iTunes and should you have a spare iPhone lying around you can use the separate remote control app, which you can get for $2.99.
