The Sony PS4 might have arrived since November last year but the games have yet to fully optimize the next-gen console full power. This is until inFamous Second Son got released and it automatically became a chart topper due to its insane graphics.
The game’s Lead Engine Programmer, Adrian Bentley, revealed that the graphic superiority of inFamous Second Son was achieved through applying some in-depth lighting.
Speaking at the Game Developers Conference Show, Adrian demonstrated inFamous Second Son with, and without lighting and the differences are off the record. Without the lighting, inFamous Second Son looks like an average 3D game.
However, when the lightings are applied, it enhances the colours and mood of the game which also adds in more realism. Adrian revealed that the perfect lighting can only be achieved through finding the right combination between the indirect diffuse lighting and indirect specular lighting.
With the secret already out, perhaps other game developers can apply this method on their IPs and hence, change the way game looks once and for all.
