One of the ways in which the internet is used is for scams, sadly. Many gamers have become victims in the past and many more will fall for scams in the future. They arrive in many different forms and typically relate to what’s most interesting at that point in time. In this case this is Half Life 3.
Half Life 2 has been one of the most anticipated games and gamers have been waiting for news of it for a decade. So to see the game associated with a scam is very disturbing. We recently saw that gamers can donate $50 to get the game free, when it is launched.
It was said that there are 2000 copies of Half Life 3 to be given away and those wanting to take part should go to G2A to do so.
The webmaster behind the site called upon all fans of Half Life 3 and said that they could donate and receive a copy of the game when it comes out, and of course the donation was said to go to a children’s charity.
Half Life 3 hasn’t been announced and Valve may not reveal it for some time to come. While there doesn’t seem to be any indication that this is a scam, it is somewhat dubious. If it is the real deal then it’s for a worthy cause, but we have to wonder how many gamers have donated to receive a free copy.
