Half Life 3 Can Sit In The Oven As Valve Has Bigger Plans

A vast majority of the Half Life community has been disappointed once again as Valve didn’t announce anything about Half Life 3 during the CES 2014 a couple of days ago. In spite of that, fans enjoyed some great news regarding the upcoming Steam Machines.

It was revealed that 14 different companies are taking part in the developing Steam Machines. The companies announced are Alienware, Alternate, CyberPowerPC, Digital Storm, Falcon Northwest, GigaByte, iBuyPower, Maingear, Materiel.net, Next Spa, Origin PC, Scan, Webhallen, and Zotac.

Thanks to the participation of these companies, the Steam Machines will look to come in different kind of shapes, sizes and configuration. The price will also be influenced by the specifications and brand of the Steam Machines.

Consumers can choose the low end CyberPowerPC that is packed with an AMD CPU and graphics, 8GB of RAM, and 500GB of storage at $499 or the high end Falcon Northwest that offers a whopping 16GB of RAM and 16TB of space for $6000. Of course, mid-range Steam Machines will also be available.

These machines will run on a Linux based operating system known as Steam-OS. In other words, these gaming consoles are PCs as well. Unlike other gaming consoles, consumers have to purchase the controllers separately since it is not bundled with the Steam Machines.

The device will be launched later in 2014 and will be expecting 3000 games coming its way. With 65million gamers playing on Steam for the PC, the future for these machines looks bright.
