Every new piece of information from Valve are regarded a jewels appearing out of nowhere. The Half Life community has been waiting for 10 years to see a Half Life 3. Such a lengthy period could be the reason why any information coming from Valve is considered valuable.
The latest to be revealed is a leak from Valve’s database. The leak revealed that a Source 2 engine is in the makings. In addition to that, highly anticipated titles like Half Life 3, Ricochet 2 and even Left 4 Dead 3 are currently being developed.
This seems logical as a new game engine is much needed since Valve will be looking to shift to the upcoming Steam Machines. With a new gaming engine coming, many fans assumed that a Half Life 3 release seems likely as it will be a perfect title to show off the new engine’s capabilities.
However, it doesn’t look like it. Gabe from Valve revealed that he is working on Ricochet 2 and it will be the demo game for Source 2. Despite the fans disappointment over the choice of title, Ricochet 2’s launch will definitely hints the future of other follow up titles like L4D3 and HL3.
Some fans view this positively. If any criticism were to happen, it will be on Ricochet 2, not HL3. The game has a small fan-base and would make the ideal lab rat in this experiment. In spite of that, there is little to no poorly made game for Valve.
