Bitcoin Owners Devastated Over Heartbleed Infiltration

On Friday the Bitcoin Foundation said that the latest version of the Bitcoin coure, which is open source software allowing digital currency use, which is a version of OpenSSL, and used to password protect website, has been a victim of Heartbleed.

“If you are using the Windows version of the Bitcoin Core [graphical user interface] without a wallet passphrase, it is possible that your wallet could be compromised by clicking on a bitcoin payment request link,” the Bitcoin Foundation said on its website. “It is possible [but unlikely] private keys could be sent to the attacker.”

It was said that Bitcoin wallets on Android devices were at risk if the OS is Jelly Bean 4.1.

The Bitcoin Foundation has now told developers of Bitcoin, along with merchants, to update to the latest version of Bitcoin core, along with asking Android owners to updatedtheir version of Android.

The announcement is just the latest in a series of blows to the public image of Bitcoin. In February Mt. Gox, the largest Bitcoin exchange in the world was closed down following millions of dollars’ worth of Bitcoins being lost in a cryptography glitch.
