Best Of 2014: HTC One, Xperia Z3, Galaxy S5 Or LG G3?

The pattern is clear. Every year, phone manufacturers will release their best device and it will compete with each other for the phone of the year award.

At the moment, the Samsung Galaxy S5, HTC One M8, Sony Xperia Z2 and the LG G3 are all dubbed to be the best smartphone this year. The first three devices have already been unveiled and the G3 is pending its release. Nevertheless, we shall compare these heavyweights and see which is best.

In terms of processor, the Galaxy S5, One M8 and Xperia Z2 are all running on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 801. They are a minor difference in the clocking speed with some at 2.5GHz and others at 2.3GHz. The major difference is with the RAM. It seems that the S5 has only 2GB RAM. The One M8, Xperia Z2 and G3 are all built with a 3GB RAM. Of course, the G3 is based on the rumours.

On the other hand, the Samsung Galaxy S5 has innovations with the fingerprint scanner and heartbeat sensor. There is also that feature called Super Power Saving which can make 10% battery last for a whole day. Both the HTC One and Sony Xperia Z2 won’t be equipped with such hardwares. The G3 on the other hand will introduce its own line of fingerprint scanner.

Camera-wise, the Galaxy S5 made a huge jump in pixel count from its predecessor. It is equipped with a 16MP rear camera with the world’s fastest autofocus speed, measuring at 0.3seconds. The Z2 has a much larger pixel count at 20.7MP. The HTC One M8 has the smallest pixel count at 4MP but is king of capturing image in low-light.

The trio is merely upgrades of their predecessors with all the functions being enhanced. The LG G3 is rumoured to do something different. Word has it that the G3 will run on the Odin octa-core processor with four cores clocked at 2.2GHz and the balance at 1.7GHz.

Even the display is expected to be QHD display which is better than what the trio have. However, consumers fear that the rumours might have exaggerated things like how it was before the unveiling of the Galaxy S5.

Best is to wait for the LG G3 to be unveiled in the near future before upgrading your device. There are so many things expected on the G3 that it is worth the wait. Even if the rumours don’t materialize, consumers can still cash their money on either of the four devices here.
