Half Life 3: 4 Years On & Gabe’s Attitude Hasn’t Changed

Half Life fans are not at all happy with Valve’s co-founder’s attitude. Gabe Newell has been in the heat for not talking about Half Life 3. The much anticipated game is wanted by the entire Half Life community for years on end.

Way back in 2007, Gabe revealed in an interview that he won’t be talking about Half Life 3 until 2013 (see video at bottom). The year is 2014 now and to the fans disappointment, the co-founder avoided everything that has got to do with Half Life 3.

That attitude seen tells the gaming industry that it is definitely dark times when it comes to Half Life’s future or that they were burnt more worse than we thought so with the Half Life 2 stolen content fiasco from many years back.

It is not just Gabe that showcased such an ‘unbothered’ attitude. One reader recently revealed that Chet Faliszek to adopt that same approach when being questioned about Half Life 3. It happened during an interview back in 2011 when Chet was bombarded with a series of questions regarding other Valve’s title like Portal 2 and DOTA 2. Right at the end, the fan snuck in a Half Life 3 and to Chet’s frustration, the latter claimed that the entire interview got ruined thanks to that final question whereby the HL writer walked away.

Surely the game developers should realize that they cannot run and hide forever. One fan has called for Valve to come clean and be honest with the Half Life community. If there isn’t going to be a Half Life 3, so be it. But to promise fans that there would be information in 2013 and not deliver is another.

Half Life 3 has proved itself to be the longest game cliffhanger in this century. Since Valve decided to keep quiet on the matter, there is still that big chance of seeing the third sequel coming for a release.

When Gabe claimed he will speak about Half Life 3 in 2013, it could mean that Valve is waiting for the new Source engine to be ready first. Perhaps when Source 2 is done and dealt with, then Valve might take the opportunity to finally close the Half Life chapter once and for all. Check out the video below to see Gabe’s 2013 reference to when Half Life 3 would be discussed.
