There is no disputing the fact that the Nissan GT-R is the fastest vehicle to come from Japan. Soon, the GT-R is about to get updated with a new design and powertrain that is totally different from the existing models.
In conjunction with Nissan’s entry in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Japanese carmaker is attempting to create the world’s fastest hybrid vehicle, carrying the GT-R badge. Known as the R36, the car will be equipped with a 650hp V6 engine and a 134hp electric motor.
In total, the R36 will offer 784 horsepower and close to 737 pound-feet of torque. Such big numbers can get any car enthusiasts to be drooling with anticipation but for Nissan, it is rocket science.
The company’s engineering team will have to give the GTR a complete overhaul if they wish to install the hybrid system. Also, the separate electric motor will need a coolant of its own and it shouldn’t jeopardize the car’s impressive aerodynamics.
The good news is that Nissan can easily refer to the Vision Gran Turismo Concept for inspiration. The Concept was created for the future and that future is now. The current GTR has got 550hp to offer and it is difficult to see a herbivore mill outpowering the Godzilla.
