The latest Mazda 3 has been selling like hotcakes ever since it got released earlier this year. The same can be said for the latest Honda Civic but between it and the Mazda 3, which is the better purchase?
Looking at the Mazda 3, the car is powered by a 2.0 liter gas 4 cylinder engine that is mated to a six speed manual transmission. The motor has 155hp to offer while also returning an impressive 29mpg in the city and 41mpg on the highway.
The Mazda 3 is also packed with plenty of features like keyless entry, keyless ignition, sport seats, 1-touch windows, and the standard auxiliary audio input jack and USB/iPod connection. Safety features include the all-new active head restraint safety system. One can own the Mazda 3 from $16,945.
Then there is the Honda Civic which runs on a 1.8 liter gas 4 cylinder engine paired with a five speed manual transmission. The Civic drives on 143 ponies which also return 28mpg in the city and 36mpg on the highway. The advantage to getting the Civic is its resale value which stands at 59% after 3 years and 47% after 5 years of age.
Honda also equipped the Civic with tons of features such as Bluetooth connectivity, cruise control, hands-free calling, power exterior mirror control, rearview camera, speed sensitive volume, 1-touch windows and the standard auxiliary audio input jack and USB/iPod connection. The entry level Civic retails at $18,390.
While the Civic might look more established and is able to offer better resale value, we believe that the Mazda 3 is the winner of the two. The latter is cheaper to own, more efficient and also more powerful than the Civic.
