Google recently showed off the Android L at their I/O conference and features that stood out included Project Volta and the Material Design. Material Design made waves during the event but it is Project Volta that has stirred things up now. This features isn’t just something new to Android, it fixes the problem that many phone users want solving. Project Volva is said to fix the battery drain on the Nexus 5 and Android L has brought with it a new dialler.
The updated OS is said to come with battery saving features and many tweaks that will help people to get more life from their battery. An experiment was made with one device having the L preview running and another handset with Android 4.4.4. The handset with Android L came out on top. It was said that it lasted for around 471 minutes, or 8 hours, in comparison to the 345 minutes, 6 hours, of the other handset.
The Android L preview was said to run 36% better for battery than the other handset when the battery saver features was disabled, however it did come back on automatically once the handset was on 15% battery.
Project Volta is said to be a mixture of Project Butter along with Project Svelte. Butter ensures that the animations run very smoothly, while Svelte makes sure that the majority of middle of the range Android handsets is compatible. The battery saving feature minimizes activity in the background. This can lower the brightness of the display if the handset is getting low on battery.
One of the biggest changes with the Material Design happens to be the new Dialler. It works just as the previous one did but it looks a great deal better along with performing better. There is now just a single screen which offers a superb experience and no more outside pages or multiple levels.
