Verizon is both a blessing and a curse to the consumers. The major carrier might offer all the goodies for those subscribed to its network but in return, users will often be last to get an update for their device.
The latest example is with the Samsung Galaxy S4 from Verizon. For months now, users have been waiting for the Android 4.4.2 KitKat update to arrive. This is really late considering that other carriers have already sent out the firmware to their respective S4 smartphones.
Today, the Big Red is finally updating their Samsung Galaxy S4 to the Android 4.4.2 KitKat. On the downside of things however, the OS stated is no longer the latest one. Other carriers are already plotting the release of the Android 4.4.3 KitKat and there is Verizon still struggling with the 4.4.2 OS.
This is a well-known habit from the carrier. Verizon likes to take their own sweet time with every Android updates. To make things worse, the carrier prefers to work in secret and won’t make any announcement prior to the release of an update.
Verizon users will have to keep track of the carrier’s support page to see if any update gets released. There is no way to predicting the update’s arrival.
While it may sound like a major turn off, there is something good about the updates from Verizon. It is the fact that most of them are problem free. Also, it is worth noting that the Big Red won’t come any later than the smaller carriers in the US.
