The KitKat 4.4.3 update has started to roll out to owners of many handsets. It is available for those who own the Nexus 5 and Nexus 7, while it is coming to the Moto X, Moto G, Moto E, HTC One M8 GPe, Samsung Galaxy S4 and the Nexus 4.
At the moment KitKat 4.4.2 is also available for owners of the Nexus 10 and it has been said that the update is going to roll out OTA for the Nexus 10 and other devices. However if you want the update without waiting you can find a step by step guide below to install the update onto the Nexus 10. The build number is KTU84L for the Nexus 10 devices.
With the new KitKat update comes many bug fixes, along with new features and enhancements. The build also comes with Chromium browser built in, ART, Bluetooth, VPN routing, Dalvik and background services, at least according to IBTimes UK.
Preconditions and Firmware Download
1. Back-up all the important data from the Nexus 10 tablet and ensure that the device is already running on Android 4.4.2 KOT49H firmware.
2. Install USB Drivers for Nexus 10 on the system and enable USB Debugging Mode on the phone.
3. The device should have at least 70 to 80% battery charge, for smooth installation without interruption.
4. If not done already, set up Android SDK and fastboot. The instruction can be found here.
5. Download the ‘zip file’ from Google: Android 4.4.3 (KTU84L) KitKat OTA update. The file size is 72.6MB.
Installation Guide
1. As a first step, the downloaded firmware ‘zip file’ should be copied from the platform-tools folder in the Android SDK directory.
2. To bring up the ‘command window’ from the platform-tools folder, hold the Shift key and right click on the empty space within the platform-tools folder.
3. Time to connect the Nexus 10 tablet to the system/computer using a USB cable.
4. Type down the command given below and then click the ‘Enter’ button: adb reboot bootloader
5. The device will now reboot in the Bootloader mode.
6. Choose Recovery mode option by hitting the Power button. Note: Users can navigate with the help of Volume Up and Down keys.
7. Once done, an Android icon should appear on the screen. Press and hold the Power button, at the same time tap the Volume Up key.
8. The device is now set to Recovery mode.
9. With the help of the Volume Down key, highlight ‘apply update’ from ADB option.
10. Now, press the Power button in order to select the highlighted option.
11. As a next step, launch the command window.
12. Enter the command given below.
For Windows : adb.exe sideload signed-mantaray-KTU84L-from-KOT49H.dacffc0e.zip
For Mac : ./adb-mac sideload signed-mantaray-KTU84L-from-KOT49H.dacffc0e.zip
For Linux : ./adb sideload signed-mantaray-KTU84L-from-KOT49H.dacffc0e.zip
Note: The set of strings after the command “sideload” is the name of the downloaded OTA package.
13. If done correctly, the OTA update will start the installation process on the Nexus 10 tablet.
14. Users have to re-start the system once the installation gets completed. Select ‘reboot system now’ option in Recovery mode.
15. Once the device is re-booted, verify the Android version from the Settings of the Nexus 10 tablet.
