The Mazda CX-9 came in with a new design but what got our attention was the new engine that Mazda fitted under the hood. When Mazda announce that the engine was designed to be compact enough so that it will fit inside the other Mazda model, everybody assume that the Mazda CX-5 was going to be one of the models to get the update but we ended up getting something even more exciting.
When Mazda took the covers off the 2017 Mazda CX-5, they also reveal that the US version will be getting a diesel engine option. We don’t see much diesel model being offered right now after what happen with Volkswagen but clearly Mazda saw it as a great opportunity.
The Mazda CX-5 diesel model will be running on a 2.2-liter SkyActiv-D engine. The gasoline options will be coming back as well.
As exciting as it was, some people are saying that the diesel model will not matter if Mazda does not offer it with a manual transmission.
