It seems that the Evad3rs have been working quietly on the jailbreak and have released a jailbreak for iOS 7.1. This was at first thought to be the work of Winocm, however it appears that the Evad3rs were in on it too. However the downside is that the jailbreak is limited when it comes to jailbreaking iPhones.
Alphawired said that the iPhone 4 is compatible with the jailbreak as it has the older A4 processor. However the Apple iPhone 5 has the A5 processor and this is proving to be hard to jailbreak.
There are many people who have updated their handsets to iOS 7.1 and at the moment they cannot jailbreak their handset. It looks like they may have to wait until Apple launches iOS 8 and someone comes up with a jailbreak for it.
So while the iOS 7.1 jailbreak may be limited right now. It is at least a positive sign that progress has been made. This shows that at least the hackers are not giving up. So for the time being if you own the 4th gen iPhone there is a jailbreak. Owners of newer handsets will just have to bide their time and wait.
