Last month, the XC90 took the digital world by storm as Volvo starts taking in pre-orders for the highly anticipated SUV online. A total of 1,972 units listed on the Swedish carmaker’s website and it sold out in just 47hours.
Surprisingly, most of the units sold occurred in the first hour. There was one part where 7 XC90 got sold every minute.
It is unsure on why Volvo decided to put the pre-order now as the XC90 is only going to get released in April next year. Nevertheless, the reception has gone beyond expectation. Perhaps, this is owed to the exclusivity of the First Edition variants of the XC90.
Comparing it to the upcoming XC90, the First Edition gets some extras like uniquely numbered tread plates and a distinctive badge on the tailgate. It will come in both upercharged and turbocharged T6 AWD (320 hp and and 400 Nm) and D5 twin turbodiesel (225 hp and 470 Nm) forms that are mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox.
Other features include an Onyx Black exterior, eight-spoke, 21-inch inscription wheels, as well as an interior featuring nappa leather seats done in a shade called Amber, complete with a Charcoal leather dashboard and Linear Walnut inlays.
Senior VP of marketing, sales and customer service at Volvo Car Group, Alain Visser, said that the company was astonished to see the hot demand for the XC90. He went on to claim that the First Edition will be a collector’s edition in the future.
