The Samsung Galaxy S3 is an old powerful smartphone. This explains why there are still many S3 users today. Unfortunately however, the S3 will not be receiving the Android 5.0 Lollipop update from Samsung but users don’t have to get upset over it.
This is because there is another way to get the Android 5.0 Lollipop update and it is through XDA. A senior developer from the XDA community had just developed a custom ROM containing the Lollipop OS and it is designed specifically for the S3 GT-i9300 version.
So if you are using the right model of S3 and wish to enjoy the Lollipop OS, then you can head over to XDA and download the custom Rom, together with the Google Apps Package. Then, you can refer to the installation procedure below. Just do make sure that your device is rooted with at least 550% of battery left. Also, always perform a backup prior to the Lollipop installation.
• Download the arter97 kernel file and arter97’s Android 5.0 Lollipop update firmware from the source link below this tutorial.
• Extract the Lollipop ROM ZIP file and put the ROM back-up in the following location – /sdcard/clockwordmod/backup on your Samsung Galaxy S3. Also transfer the kernel zip file to your SD card.
• Enter recovery mode on your device and perform a full wipe of the system, cache, dalvik cache, and data.
• Restore back-up. This will actually install the Android Lollipop ROM to your device, as you have stored the 5.0 firmware in the backup folder on your device.
You will then have to install the arter97 kernel, don’t restart the device as the ROM will not boot without it. Remain in recovery mode to complete the installation.
• Choose the kernel ZIP file that you transferred to the SD card on your device in recovery and flash it.
• Reboot your device. The ROM installation process is now complete.
