The all-new Honda HR-V has finally arrived here in the US and many are already placing their orders for the vehicle. For me, the HR-V is a big disappointment, especially with its performance.
Before I explain myself, it is best for you to know that the Honda HR-V I tested out was powered by a 1.8L 4-cylinder engine that generates 141hp and 127ft-lbs of torque. The ponies are pumped through a CVT transmission and this also aids in returning an average fuel consumption rate of 30mpg.
On papers, the HR-V might sound decently powered. Well, I have to disagree with the papers as I find the HR-V to be severely underpowered. Yes, the 1.8L unit might be brought over from the latest Civic but it has failed to make the compact SUV more powerful than before.
To be precise, the HR-V performs just like the latest Honda Fit. With a curb weight of 3,109lbs, the HR-V is not exactly light, even if the vehicle is slightly bigger than the Fit. It seems that the additional horsepower is only meant to offset the extra weight.
Hence, this explains why I find the latest Honda HR-V a poor performer, just like the latest Fit. However, I have to give the thumbs up to Honda for making the HR-V more practical than ever. Then again, the design could be much better.
