Galaxy S5 vs Xperia Z2, New HTC One & LG G3 (Comparison)

Four flagship devices are coming to the market soon by way of the Sony Xperia Z2, the HTC One M8, the Samsung Galaxy S5 and the LG G3. The Sony Xperia Z2 and Samsung Galaxy S3 have both been shown off at the MWC recently. The HTC One M8 is coming out on March 28 and the LG G3 is coming out in June. So the question is, is it worth waiting to see what the other two handsets bring or should you go out and get the Samsung or Sony handsets?

When the Samsung Galaxy S5 came out it arrived with the Snapdragon 801 quad core processor, which is clocked at 2.5GHz along with 2GB of RAM. This happens to be less than what the Sony Xperia Z2 will have as it will come with 3GB. The handset is to offer a camera of 16MP and it has fast autofocus. It was said that this is 0.3 seconds. The handset also has 16GB of storage, plus it supports microSD.

There is a 5.1 inch FHD Super AMOLED display on the Samsung Galaxy S5 and this offers a resolution of 1920 x 1080p with 432ppi. The battery is 2,800mAh and it comes with two ways of saving power, one of which is Super Power Saving. This mode will turn the display to back and white along with turning off features that are not needed. When used in this mode the device should have 24 hours left on standby at 10% battery. The back of the handset is dimpled and it is water proof and dust proof. Samsung have built a heart rate sensor and fingerprint scanner into the handset. The Samsung Galaxy S5 will have the typical features of all Samsung devices, it will have S Voice and TouchWiz, and it will also have the latest version of Android, KitKat 4.4.

We don’t know a great deal about the HTC One M8 other than leaks. We have heard that the display will be full HD at 5 inches and this will offer 440ppi. It has been said that it could run on the quad core Snapdragon processor, which should be either the 800 or the 801. This could be clocked at 2.3GHz or 2.5GHz. The handset will either offer 2GB or 3GB of internal storage. A leaked video also said that it would come with support to expand storage via microSD card.

The HTC One M8 could have an Ultrapixel camera on the back along with dual lens which would ensure that the photos were great. The handset may also have a camera of 4MP or perhaps even 5MP on the front. The battery could be in the region of around 3100mAh. The HTC One M8 may offer HTC Sense 6 along with updated Blinkfeed, it could have a fingerprint scanner and speakers on the front of the handset. There could also be an always listening feature.

The Sony Xperia Z2 will be in competition with the Samsung Galaxy S5 as it could have the Snapdragon 801 processor and this could be clocked at 2.3GHz. It could have 3GB of RAM along with 16GB of internal memory and it may have support for SDcard. The design is said to be aluminium and it will have water proofing along with dust proofing. Sony claims that the device can be put under water for 30 minutes at 3 meters depth.

One thing that does stand out is the 20.7MP camera and this will be able to record in 4k and 1080p. The Sony Xperia Z2 will offer a display of 5.2 inches at 1080p with 424ppi and it should have KitKat 4.4 installed alongside the custom UI of Sony.

The LG G3 is said to be arriving in June and it could come out at the same time as the Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime. The LG G3 might offer the Odin octa-core processor or possibly the Snapdragon 805. An octa-core LG G3 would have four cores at 2.2GHz along with four at 1.7GHz. If so we can expect it to be a handset that packs power. The handset may also have 3GB of ram and the display may be QHD 2K.

The handset may arrive with a fingerprint scanner or it could have the retina scanner. But these are nothing more than rumours at the moment. You do have to take into account that the same rumours were going around about the Samsung Galaxy S5 before Samsung announced the device.

So it looks like all handsets that are going to come out in the future could have specs that are very similar. These are a fingerprint scanner, water and dust proofing, plus devices could start to focus on reducing the latency in touch screens and offering updates faster. At the moment the LG G3 does sound like a great handset, if all the rumours about it turn out to be true. However if it comes with high class specs you can expect the handset to command a high price tag.
