It seems that Sony Pictures has decided that they are going to work on a Ghostbusters 3 movie. While some may see this as bad news, worst is to come as the director of the original Ghostbusters film has dropped out of working on the project.
The release date news of Ghostbusters 3 came from Deadline; they say that Sony will begin production in early 2015 in New York. The movie has been in the works ever since Ghostbusters 2 came out in 1989 but it has met obstacles, with the biggest of these being Bill Murray. Now it has been said that team have a script that they don’t hate, but Murray won’t read it.
Troubles began for the movie when Harold Ramis passed away at just 69. He was in the original movie, along with writing it and he also wrote Ground Hog Day. Ramis was very close to Ivan Reitman who found his death hard to deal with. Due to this and the fact that Murray won’t do the movie, he pulled out.
However this may not be what holds the movie back. It has been said that he will back the project and is helping to find a new Director. It seems that the script is keeping to the original Ghostbuster in a minimal way, but as one of the team passed away this is understandable.
We have no idea when Ghostbusters 3 will make its debut as it will not begin filming until late 2014 or early 2015. Perhaps it might make its way into cinemas by summer of 2016. However unless they don’t want it to turn into a huge stinker, they are going to have to come up with something exceptional. What remains to be seen is whether the movie will make it without Bill Murray, Harold Ramis and Ivan Reitman.
