Samsung Galaxy S2 Remains Active With Android 4.4 KitKat Update

The Samsung Galaxy S2 is one of the best smartphones in history. This why there are still a lot of S2 users living among us. Unfortunately, the device has been axed from getting new software updates by Samsung.

Despite that fact, the S2 users remain calm and collected as they can still update their software with the aid of CyanogenMod. The latter had just produced the CM11 ROM for the S2 GT-i9100 and it will update the device to the latest Android 4.4 KitKat.

Of course, installing CM11 will require S2 users to root their device. If you are an S2 GT-i9100 user and wish to get the KitKat, we have the installation guide below. Before proceeding, we do advise you to get all the ingredients checked beforehand.

Make sure you have created a backup of your existing software and personal files. Also, you must have at least 50% battery to avoid any disruption during the installation. In addition to that, the USB Debugging option must be ticked and you will need to install Clockwork Mod on the device. Of course, you will also have to download CM11 and Google Apps Package on your computer. If all is ready, then proceed with the installation as per instructed below.

1. Connect the device to the computer via USB
2. Copy the CyanogenMod 11 and Google Apps packages into the SD card. Do Not Extract.
3. Unplug the device and turn it off.
4. Enter recovery mode by Holding down the volume up +power +home at the same time.
5. Once inside, backup the ROM
6. Next, select “wipe data/factory reset” and “wipe cache partition.” Then choose “advanced > wipe Dalvik cache.”
7. Go back to the main menu and install CyanogenMod 11 by selecting “install zip from SD card > choose zip from SD > cyanogenMod 11 / Google Apps> confirm installation.
8. Once done, go back and select reboot system. This process will take up to 5 minutes.

By now, your device should be running on the KitKat OS. Enjoy!
