PS4 Red Light: Was There Foul Play Involved?

The Sony PlayStation 4 is dealing with a lot of criticism lately due to some overheating issues causing the next-gen console to come out of the box with a red light. There has been plenty of buzz on the internet with scientific comments on how the console was able to face such a problem. However, a handful of others suggested it to be a case of foul play. Could the machines be sabotaged?

A couple of comments were made on a deleted thread over at 4Chan revealing the PlayStation 4 to contain a huge amount of lead on the console’s thermal paste. As a result, the hardware will heat up rapidly when being used. Another comment revealed that it will take as little as an hour for the players to notice the significant temperature change.

When it comes to electronic devices, the material lead has been barred by the EU due to its waste hazards. A company like Sony should be aware of this and wouldn’t even try to sneak some lead into its device. As players received the console, it is simply not right to find the device in red lights. It should not even occur on something so new and properly developed.

A video was posted on YouTube showing the person stripping the console and found that he too encountered the lead problem. He showed it that the thermal paste was clearly faulty out of the box which means that it should have failed the quality test. Some comments on the video hinted that the employers from Foxconn has been mistreated thus leading to the sabotage.

Sony responded on this incident and measured the damage to hit about 0.4% of total units shipped. Sony has sold more than a million of the PS4 so that means thousands of consoles are affected. This is really bad for the Japan-based electronics giant. The company is now caught in the middle of product issue and human rights.

All in all, this is just rumours so take it with a pinch of salt. Either Sony is the sole culprit or the company is the victim. If you’re part of the unlucky 0.4%, do not attempt to open up the console on your own. You would risk losing your product’s warranty. Simply give Sony a call at 1800-345-SONY for further assistance.
