Users of the Nexus 4 can now begin to update their handsets. The most recent update for the Nexus 4 has now been released through OTA. For those amongst you who may not get the update, here are the points you need to follow to update your device to the Nexus 4.
Before you go ahead with updating your handset you will need to bear in mind that with the self-update method users will need to root their handset whch makes the warranty of the handset no longer count.
Rooting the handset will also erase any available data so it is crucial to backup your device before you begin. After you have done that, install the USB drivers software on a computer so that you can connect the Nexus 4 to a PC and lastly, unlock the Nexus 4 Bootloader and ensure that the handset has at least 80% of battery life remaining.
First thing you need to do is head to the Google’s Android developer’s page to download the Android SDK and install it onto the PC. After that, enable the USB Debugging mode on the Nexus 4. Download Fastboot and enter the .zip file into the android-sdk-windowsplatform-tools directory.
After you have done that, download SuperSU application tool into the PC and use a USB to connect the Nexus 4 to the computer. Next step is to enter the UPDATE-SUPERSU-v1.99 .zip file into the SD card of the handset. Then, turn off the device and open up Bootloader by holding down both the volume down button and the power button at the same time.
Whilst on the computer, click on the the android-sdk-windowsplatfomr-tools and start Command Prompt. Then type in “fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-touch-6.0.4.7-mako.img” and afterwards press enter. After that, return to the Fastboot menu and go into the recovery mode. Click on the “flash zip from SD card” and then select “choose zip from sdcard”. Look for the UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.99.zip” and click on it to begin installing. When the installation has finished, select “+++++GoBack” and choose “reboot system now” to restart the handset.
It will take several minutes to reboot your device. Last thing you need to do is select About phone to make sure that the update has been installed properly.
