LG G2 Android 5.0 Lollipop Forced Out By XDA!

The LG G2 has already been confirmed to be getting the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop update but it won’t be happening anytime soon as the South Korean tech giant is busy updating the G3. As such, G2 users can quit waiting and apply the Android 5.0 Lollipop manually.

This is now possible thanks to XDA’s Rashed97, who had just developed a custom ROM containing the Android 5.0 Lollipop for the LG G2 D800, D801, D802, LS980, and VS980 variants.

The downside to this is that the custom ROM is still in its early build and there are some issues with it. At the moment, the problems are limited to the video recording and the GPS features. For the LS980 and VS980 models, there is an added issue involving the device’s cellular network.

Aside from that, everything works fine for the LG G2. Furthermore, Rashed97 also revealed that he will personally send out an update in the future to fix the issue with the Android 5.0 Lollipop ROM.

So if you are an LG G2 user and wish to update your device to the latest OS from Google, you can check out the following procedure:

Pre-requisite
1. Make sure a backup is created and the device is already rooted with CWM. We recommend doing so with NANDROID.
2. A minimum of 50% battery life to ensure no disruption when installation is taking place.
3. CM12 ROM ZIP downloaded for the G2.
4. Google Apps Package downloaded.

Flashing Instruction
1. Transfer both the Custom ROM and Google Apps Package to your G2.
2. Boot device into recovery mode and wipe cache, data and system partition.
3. Flash the CM12 ROM.
4. Then, Flash the Google Apps Package.
5. The G2 should reboot and it will run on the Lollipop OS.
