HTC One M8 vs Samsung Galaxy S5: A Year Of Rivalry!

About a year, Samsung launched the Galaxy S5 and so did HTC with the One M8. Both smartphones have now matured and are running on the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop OS but which of the two is actually better?

In terms of size, the Samsung Galaxy S5 is actually smaller than the HTC One M8. However, it the former has a larger 1080p 5.1” screen. The One M8 only has a 5” 1080p display to offer. Apparently, the larger build of the One M8 is due to the BoomSound speakers which are far superior to the speakers on the S5.

Under the hood, both the S5 and the One M8 are powered by the same Snapdragon 801 processor but are clocked at 2.5GHz and 2.3GHz respectively. This goes to show that the S5 is slightly faster and benchmark tests have further proved this point.

While both the S5 and the One M8 might run on the same Adreno 330 GPU, the same benchmark test saw the latter coming out with better graphic scores than the former. This is surprising as we thought the speed of the S5 can aid in boosting its graphics. Both devices are paired to 2GB of RAM.

Then there is the battery comparison. The HTC One M8 has a smaller 2,600mAh battery that can last 13hours 28minutes of non-stop usage. The Samsung Galaxy S5 is better with its larger 2,800mAh battery which is able to last 17hours and 30minutes of non-stop usage.

Judging from the specs above, there is actually no way to name a clear winner. So to make it simpler, consumers are encouraged to get the HTC One M8 if they are into a more premium metal body and better build quality. For features and functions, the Samsung Galaxy S5 wins!
