How To Update Samsung Galaxy S3 To Android 5.0

The old Samsung Galaxy S3 has been voided from receiving the Android 4.4 KitKat update and this basically confirms that the device won’t be getting the Android 5.0 Lollipop update as well. Despite the software constraints, there are still many users around looking for a way to stay relevant.

If you are among them, then the solution here is XDA. A senior member of XDA had just produced a custom ROM containing the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop and it is built specifically for the Samsung Galaxy S3 GT-i9300 model. So if you are using the aforementioned model, then you are in luck.

However, before you jump straight to applying the update, you should note that the custom ROM is still in its early build so there are a couple of issues with it. Then again, the ROM developer is expected to send out fixes for the Lollipop OS in the near future.

So, if you are interested in updating your device, then you are recommended to go to XDA and download the custom ROM, together with the Google Apps Package. Make sure you have backed up your device with at least 50% battery to spare. Once done, refer to our guide below.

• Extract the Lollipop ROM ZIP file and put the ROM back-up in the following location – /sdcard/clockwordmod/backup on your Samsung Galaxy S3. Also transfer the kernel zip file to your SD card.
• Enter recovery mode on your device and perform a full wipe of the system, cache, dalvik cache, and data.
• Restore back-up. This will actually install the Android Lollipop ROM to your device, as you have stored the 5.0 firmware in the backup folder on your device.
You will then have to install the arter97 kernel, don’t restart the device as the ROM will not boot without it. Remain in recovery mode to complete the installation.
• Choose the kernel ZIP file that you transferred to the SD card on your device in recovery and flash it.
• Reboot your device. The ROM installation process is now complete.
