2017 Subaru BRZ: Why It’s Scared Of Turbo

With so many automakers now offering their models with a turbo engine, you would think that Subaru will also jump on board and start to offer their Subaru BRZ with a turbo engine option but that did not happen with the 2017 model. In fact, it might never get a turbo upgrade ever.

The 2017 Subaru BRZ is powered by a 2.0-liter engine that will be delivering about 200 to 205hp and will return about 24mpg in the city and 33mpg on the highway. While the Subaru BRZ would benefit from a new turbo engine, Subaru is also afraid that their Subaru BRZ would be way too different when the new turbo engine is fitted.

According to Todd Hill, the Subaru of America’s Car Line Planning Manager, getting the BRZ to run on the turbo engine would mean that they will have to increase the retail price of the BRZ and that it would also affect the weight of the car which means the BRZ will become a very different model.

Because of that, we might never see a turbo engine under the hood of the Subaru BRZ.
