2017 Mazda CX-5 Wants To Fight Volvo, Ends Up With Prius

We all thought that Mazda was looking to turn the Mazda CX-5 into a premium model. Before the 2017 model was announced, there were rumors saying that Mazda was looking to give the Mazda CX-5 a whole list of upgrades.

One of the upgrades was believed to be the engine upgrade. The fans were hoping that the upgraded Mazda CX-5 would come in to be a Volo XC60 rival but instead of that, we got a Prius rival.

Instead of going premium, Mazda decided to go down the fuel economy route by offering the Mazda CX-5 with a new diesel engine. Most automakers are trying to avoid offering a diesel-powered model here in the US so it did come as a surprise when Mazda made that announcement.

The new diesel engine and the upgraded exterior design should help the Mazda CX-5 get all the attention its needs.
