2016 Volkswagen Golf R Can’t Fight Right Now, Mid-Cycle Update Won’t Help

The Volkswagen Golf R is still considered one of the best hot hatch in the market right now but models like the Ford Focus RS coming in to compete with the Volkswagen Golf R, things are starting to look a little shaky on the side of Golf R.

The current Volkswagen Golf R will be coming in with a 2.0 liter inline 4 engine that will be mated to a six-speed manual transmission. The Golf R will deliver about 292hp and 280lb ft of torque and return about 22mpg in the city and 31mpg on the highway. The 2016 model will also come with safety features like stability control, traction control, dusk-sensing headlights and more.

The Ford Focus RS, on the other hand, will come with a 2.3 liter inline 4 engine that will be mated to a six-speed manual transmission. The engine will be offering about 350hp and 350lb ft of torque. The Focus RS will also come with safety features like fog lights, DRL, and cornering lights.

If you think the 2017 model will help, think again. While the 2017 will be getting some minor tweaks on the outside and a new digital configurable instrument cluster on the inside, the rest of the vehicle will most likely remain the same.
