Just before we get all the details about the second gen XC90 SUV, a full set of photos has leaked along.
There is nothing adventurous about the exterior, even though Volvo had us believing there would be. It is a combination of the XC90s estate like looks with slightly more muscle around the body and some great light technology.
The Volvo will offer an exterior package that does look more rugged. This is thanks to the dark plastic moldings which run over the bumpers along with the side skirts and the wheel arches.
Volvo has spent a great deal of time on the inside of this luxury SUV in the mid-size category. It does look stylish and modern with a large tablet style infotainment display on the dashboard. This takes over for the traditional buttons and controls that were in the centre stack.
The 2016MY XC90 is the first car from Volvo that had been built along the Scalable Product Architecture modular chassis that the company made in-house.
Volvo had said that the powertrain line-up of the XC90 would be made up of several four cylinder petrol and diesel Drive E engines. Among them will be the top of the range T8 hybrid which has the 2.0 litre supercharged gas unit to drive the front wheels, along with the 80hp electric motor which turns the axle on the back. This gives an output combined of 400hp and the D5 twin-turbo diesel has 190hp and 225hp.
