2015 Volkswagen Golf GTE: What Can We Expect?

If we have learned anything from hypercars and racing then it’s that high performance and hybridization aren’t jointly exclusive. This is proven to be understood with Volkswagen’s Golf GTE Sport Concept. Back in May this hatchback made it’s premiere at the annual Worthersee Festival, however it will be making its auto show debut in Frankfurt.

The Golf GTE Sport makes the use of electric and gas sources to create its 396 total system horsepower. Aa pair of electric motors, one for each axle, produce 113 hp each and run on a lithium-ion battery pack. The total electric range is a remarkable 31 miles. The 1.6-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder gas engine is taken from the engine bay of Volkswagen’s three-time winner of the World Rally Championship, the Polo R WRC. The engine produces 295 hp by itself.

Obviously that is not what you are interested in. What you want to know is what the Golf GTE Sport is capable of when you go out of EV or hybrid mode and into GTE. Using this setting, the gas engine and electric motors both work to give you it’s best performance. In just 4.3 seconds it can do sixty-two miles per hour and its top speed is an extraordinary 174mph.

The appearance is a combination of older Golf concepts: VW’s two Vision Gran Turismo vehicles, the Supersport and the Roadster, as well as adding some of the current GTI. Take a look at our live pictures from Frankfurt and give us your opinions.
