2014 Honda Civic Review: A Small Time Upgrade Only

What is there not to like about the new Civic? It has better value, more room, better fuel mileage and a decent drive overall. However, the eye catcher is the new VTI-L engine.

It is basically an improved version of the previous 1.8L four-cylinder engine that packs in more power. Although it’s not much, the new engine adds in 1kW, bringing it to a total of 104kW and 174Nm.

The eye-catcher is with the fuel consumption. The new Honda Civic amazed the world as it achieves 6.7L/100km. This is a massive cut from the previous 7.5km/100km.

If you still need power, then there is the Civic Sport that comes with a 2.0L four-cylinder engine that offers 114kW and 190Nm. Fuel consumption has also improved drastically as the Civic achieves 7.5L/100km, down from 8.4L/100km.

As mentioned before, these are still the same engine and transmission like its predecessors. The amazing thing is that the Civic has a powertrain like no other. The driver and passengers get the best comfort in the Civic as wind noises are kept to the minimum. On top of that, the interior got itself some new-designs, although it is nothing special to be fascinated about.

All in all, the 2014 Honda Civic has proved itself to be a mighty car. However, the jump from the previous model is a small one that is not worth all the excitement. The only good thing about the Civic is its improved fuel efficiency.
