iPad 3 Body Reveals Thicker Design, Not Quad-Core After All [LEAKED PICS]

Given that Apple has been punctual with the release of the original iPad and the iPad 2, we may just see the iPad 3 (or iPad 2S) launch next month. Now an image has surfaced from the folks over at RepairLabs that is supposedly the outer casing of the upcoming iPad 3.

iPad 3 body hints thicker design, new cameras & screen

The picture below shows both an iPad 2 (left) and iPad 3 (right), and details the major changes such as space for a larger battery, slightly reconfigured logic board, new cameras, and a different display. Normally it’s hard to tell whether or not these kinds of leaks have any basis in reality, but most of what the image shows lines up with news we’ve been hearing from our sources.

According to TheVerge who cites sources close to product, the new display will likely be a true iPad Retina Display (2048 x 1536 resolution) and that the A6 chip will be of the dual-core variety. That’s right, not a quad-core like the ASUS Transformer Prime.

iPad 3 release date rumors

Interestingly, TheVerge also points out that given that the first two iPad models were released on the first Wednesday in March, it may be plausible to think that the iPad 3 may launch on the last day of February, 29th, which happens to be a Wednesday. This way it can be in stores by March 9th (the iPad 2 made it to stores on March 11th after debuting on March 3rd, a Wednesday).
