After many months of anticipation and false high hopes, an official untethered jailbreak for both the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 are now available.
iPad 2 & iPhone 4S untethered jailbreak now available for download
Together with Pod2g, the iPhone Dev Team and the Chronic Dev Team, the untethered jailbreak tool was released. Called Absinthe, it is compatible with the iPhone 4S running iOS 5.0 or 5.0.1 (9A405 and 9A406) and the iPad 2 Wifi/GSM/CDMA running iOS 5.0.1.
The jailbreak tool is currently available for Mac users how can grab it from greenpois0n’s website, while Windows users will need to hang in there just a little longer (however if you have a friend who owns a Mac, you can get it done right now). Once you do get Absinthe, the entire jailbreak process should be complete in about 15 minutes. We say once you get Absinthe because the greenpois0n website is swamped at the moment.
And just like all other untethered jailbreaks, if you do run into a problem and wish to lock your iPad 2 or iPhone 4S again, you just need to do a basic restore via iTunes.
