iPhone 5: You Can Forget About A Better Camera, Quad-Core, NFC… (GBM)

Although people are already raving and speculating about the iPhone 5, we actually know very little about the device for certain. Rumors have included a 4 inch Retina screen, a HD front-facing camera, a quad core processor and 4G LTE connectivity.

iPhone 5 features you shouldn’t count on coming true (GBM)

Now those are what we can safely assume will be coming to the iPhone 5. However there are a ton of other iPhone 5 rumors out there which seem believable as well until you truly look into it. The folks over GottaBeMobile (GBM) have rounded up the least likely features to be seen on the iPhone 5 which also had sounded legitimate in the start:

Quad-core processor: People expected this in the 4S as they now expect it in the iPhone 5, but it never emerged in the 4S, or the newest iPad either for that matter. The iPad instead had the dual core A5X processor, which contains a quad-core graphics processor within it. Perhaps Apple are not ready to combine quad-core with the 4G LTE network as it may not be as ‘stable and efficient’ as just having 4G LTE with a dual-core processor, so the iPhone 5 could instead have the same A5X processor as the iPad, or a variation.

Major change to screen res: Rumors are that the display will be 1136 x 640, at 320p per inch, give or take a little because of the size of the screen. No reports have shown yet that the iPhone 5 screen will be much different in resolution to the 4S, although it might include Sharp’s IZGO technology and therefore be a little sharper.

An improved camera on the back: The rear-facing camera is unlikely to be much of an improvement on the already impressive 4S camera, although additional features and enhancements are likely to become available through iOS such as burst mode, remote view finder and panorama mode (just think Samsung Galaxy S2 vs S3).

Near Field Communication: Another rumored about yet unlikely feature is NFC which many Android devices have, allowing such things as payment using the handset. Some prototypes of the iPhone 5 are said to have NFC chips so it could be possible, but again this was rumored to be on the 4S before that release and wasn’t. Also some carriers in
the US have blocked Google Wallet and the same could happen to an Apple NFC feature. That and the fact not many locations are ready to accept NFC yet which will pose as a problem for the iPhone 5 that is meant for mass market consumption.

7.99mm thickness: Considering how good the battery life will need to be to cope with the demands of the additional features such as 4G LTE connectivity, the device may not be able to get that much thinner than the 4S. In fact the latest iPad is slightly thicker than its predecessor. The same went for the Motorola devices, the RAZR MAXX being slightly thicker than the RAZR before it.
