Samsung Galaxy S3 or HTC One X: Which Deserves Superphone Title?

The HTC One X was crowned the most powerful Android smartphone on the market when it went on sale late last month. However that title may have been shortlived as Samsung finally took the cover off its flagship device, the Samsung Galaxy S3, earlier last week.

Samsung Galaxy S3 vs HTC One X

Officially confirming its specs, the Samsung Galaxy S3 comes in pretty close to the HTC One X in some aspects while blowing it away in others. Let’s quickly run through the specs to see where both smartphones currently stand.

Starting off with the dimensions, both smartphones boast almost identical dimensions, with the Samsung Galaxy S3 coming in 3gms heavier and 2mm wider. The slightly extra girth has to do with the Galaxy S3 boasting a larger 4.8-inch Super AMOLED 720p display versus the 4.7-inch Super LCD 720p display on the HTC One X. An almost unnoticeable trade off.

Moving on to the processor, the 1.4GHz Samsung Exynos quad-core processor in the Galaxy S3 was found to blow away almost everything in benchmarks, including the Tegra 3 chip found in the HTC One X. However real world testing will be the best way to gauge just how much of an advantage the Galaxy S3 has over the HTC One X. So we will leave this point hanging until the Samsung Galaxy S3 is readily available on the market.

Both the Samsung Galaxy S3 and HTC One X boast 8-megapixel camera with auto-focus, LED flash and 1080p HD video recording. They both also sit on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, have 1GB RAM and feature front-facing cameras (Galaxy S3 has a 1.9-megapixel shooter versus the 1.3MP).

Aesthetically speaking, the HTC One X looks slightly better over the hyperglazed glossy casing used on the Samsung Galaxy S3, however that is a matter of personal taste.

Battery size wise the Samsung Galaxy S3 takes the lead again, boasting a 2,100mAh battery versus the 1,800mAh in the HTC One X. The Samsung Galaxy S3 also has an expandable memory slot which the HTC One X doesn’t.

Winner: Samsung Galaxy S3

Overall, both the Samsung Galaxy S3 and HTC One X look almost evenly matched although the Samsung Galaxy S3 hardware seems to be slightly ahead in some areas. Which would you opt for? Sound off in the comments below.
