Liquidmetal iPhone 5 vs Ceramic Samsung Galaxy S3

While we’ve been hearing that the Samsung Galaxy S3 will feature a ceramic casing with similar finishing to that of Rado watches for sometime now, new details have come in suggesting that Apple may try and one-up the Korean giant by using liquid metal for its upcoming iPhone 5.

“According to industry sources, the next flagship phones of the companies are expected to adopt unprecedented materials for their main bodies, that is, ceramic for the Galaxy S3 and liquid metal for iPhone 5, both being thin, light and highly resistant to external impacts,” wrote Korean publication ETNews.com.

Analysts reason that the usage of these unique materials for both devices is because they are finding it increasingly difficult to just compete on hardware and software alone. And hence, their taking it to the next level by going with design. The iPhone has always been more ‘trendy’ than the usually plastic-based Samsung Galaxy models. However with these new materials in play, it will be interesting to see if Samsung gets the upperhand by going with something that feels a little more luxurious, or if the iPhone 5 helps Apple keep its lead with a more solid design.

Rumors suggest that the Samsung Galaxy S3 will be first to launch in early May at the Samsung Mobile Unpacked event in London, followed by the iPhone 5 in late June at WWDC 2012 in San Francisco.
