While the iPad 3 is yet to have an official release date, Best Buy has already gone ahead and quietly slashed the price tag of the iPad 2.
iPad 2 price dropped at Best Buy ahead of iPad 3 release
Best Buy dropped the price tag of the iPad 2 by $50 over the weekend, bringing the 16GB Wi-Fi-only iPad 2 to $449.99 and the top model 64GB 3G iPad 2 down to$779.99.
According to ChicagoTribune, Best Buy has declined to comment on the reason behind the somewhat substantial price cut, but given that the iPad 3 is rumored to be announced on March 7th, Best Buy no doubt has a lot of inventory to clear.
The word on the street is that the iPad 2 may actually continue to remain in production even after the iPad 3 hits store, in an attempt to provide a lower cost tablet offering to rival the cheaper tablets on the market e.g. Amazon Kindle Fire.
