1.0L Ford EcoSport SUV Name Returns 8 Years Later

Ford has gone ahead and officially unveiled its brand new EcoSport compact SUV at the New Delhi Auto Expo in India. Now if that name sounds familiar, it would be because we first heard of it back in 2003 when the first generation model launched in Brazil.

SUMMARY: Ford brings back the EcoSport SUV name 8 years later with a new design language and 1.0-litre Ecoboost engine. Eventually to go on sale in 100 markets globally.

Not much was revealed regarding mechanics other than it will boast a 1.0 liter 3-cylinder EcoBoost engine with 120hp and 170Nm bragging rights.

Outside we can see that it utilizes Ford’s new global design language with its oblique headlamps and a high mounted trapezoidal grille. In fact, the Ford EcoSport compact SUV reminds me of the Range Rover Evoque more than anything else. With its steep windshield and blacked out B-pillars, it is obvious why.

Inside we find the Ford EcoSport resemble the new-generation of Ford SUVs, with lesser usage of plastics and better material quality.

The EcoSport will ultimately be available in 100 markets worldwide with assembly in India and Brazil.
