The 2016 Ford Explorer Facelift Is Minimal [PICS]

The Ford Explorer has been confirmed to be getting a mid-cycle refresh and it is due to arrive in 2016.

Today, consumers can get a better look at the upcoming Ford Explorer after spy shots of it got leaked on the internet. Unlike most spy shots, the Ford Explorer is only wrapped under camouflage on the front and tail section. This further suggests that the changes are limited to those areas.

Despite the disguise, we can still see that the Explorer comes with a set of new grille and headlamps. Furthermore, the fog lamps are now positioned higher than the existing spotlights. Over at the rear section, there are now new light clusters, tailgate and bumper designs.

Unfortunately, these are the only information we have at the moment. There is no telling on the changes with the Explorer’s interior or the engine that is resting under the hood of the vehicle.

Even so, rumours are indicating that the SUV will be powered by a redesigned 2L turbocharged EcoBoost engine that will offer better fuel economy and power than the existing 240hp 2L engine on the existing model. It will also drive on the AWD system.

Furthermore, Ford is tipped to be adding the new turbocharged 2.7L V6 EcoBoost as an option for the Ford Explorer. The latter will be able to generate a whopping 300hp.
